- We are covered for medical care by Cigna in any country (also outside our jurisdiction and in Belgium). They pay 80% of everything that would normally be covered by the mutualiteit/mutualité in Belgium.
- We also have an hospitalisation insurance, paid by the FOD (previously AG, now Ethias) that covers the remaining 20% of hospitalisation costs
- For ambulant care, the remaining 20% is not covered by Ethias. FOD covers this for diplomats, but not for the partners. But there is a maximum of 1,800 EUR per family per year, the rest is paid by the FOD.
- Medication that is reimbursed in Belgium is also 100% reimbursed by Cigna (in case it’s on prescription from a doctor!)
- Check on the website of the INAMI whether the medication is reimbursed in Belgium and the % of reimbursement.
- In case of ambulant care, we submit receipts (and the doctor prescriptions). In case of hospitalisation, Cigna pays 100% directly to the hospital (derdebetalerssysteem) and then reclaims the 20% from Ethias but in some countries this has been problematic because Cigna was not recognized and people had to advance the full amount themselves and then reclaim from the insurance companies
- Repatriation is only covered when travelling in your jurisdiction or work related travel outside, you need a private insurance for private trips outside the jurisdiction
- Scan as well the proofs of payment.
